Mud, Sweat, and Gears: The Truth About Off-Roading with FourX

There is a saying among outdoor enthusiasts: "There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad equipment."

For wheelchair users who love nature, the FourX is that equipment. It gives you the freedom to tackle trails, snow, and uneven terrain. But let’s be honest: when you take a powerchair off-road, things are going to get messy.

At Moventuras, we designed our mudguards (fenders) to handle the toughest conditions. They aren't just plastic flaps; they are engineered for the suspension.

Here is why FourX mudguards are superior to standard solutions—and why you still need to grab a hose after the ride.

1. They Move With You

The FourX is famous for its flexible frame and independent 4-wheel suspension. A rigid, standard fender simply wouldn't work on our machine.

If a fender is bolted to a static frame, but the wheel moves up and down over rocks and roots, the distance between the wheel and the fender changes constantly.

The FourX solution: Our mudguards are mounted to move in sync with the suspension. Whether your wheel drops into a pothole or climbs over a log, the mudguard stays in the perfect position, hugging the tire. This stops the spray from flying onto your back or into the seat mechanism.

2. Built for the Bush

We know our users aren't just driving on polished floors. You are driving through branches, tall grass, and gravel.

Flimsy plastic snaps easily in these conditions. FourX mudguards are built from high-durability materials designed to withstand impacts and vibration. They don’t rattle, and they don’t crack when the going gets tough.

The Reality Check: Even the Best Fenders Have Limits

We are proud of our design, but we are also realists. If you drive your FourX through deep mud, swampy trails, or wet clay, the laws of physics still apply.

Proof of a good adventure. Even with great fenders, sometimes the mud wins.)

As you can see in the photo, sometimes the terrain is so demanding that the chair itself will get caked in mud. The mudguards are there to keep the driver as clean as possible, but the machine takes the hit.

Take Care of Your Beast

Seeing a FourX covered in mud is a badge of honor—it means you are using it exactly as it was intended! However, it is vital to take care of your investment.

Leaving wet mud to dry on the chassis, motors, or suspension components can cause wear over time.

  • Rinse it off: Make it a habit to clean the chassis after a heavy off-road session.

  • Check the details: Ensure stones or debris aren't stuck between the wheels and the fenders.
